Because of its complex absorptive and bulking properties, diatomite (also called diatomaceous earth or Kieselguhr) is an extremely effective filter aid.

For almost 100 years, diatomaceous earth filtration has been the foundation for food and beverage processing and it continues to produce extremely high quality filtrates more economically than most technologies.

Many every day products are regularly filtered by diatomaceous earth including; soft drinks, vegetable oils, fruit juices, beer and ales, wine, gelatine, pectin and alginates, animal oils, sweeteners (corn, beet and cane), soy sauce and MSG (monosodium glutamate).

Celatom® diatomite
Flexibulk is the exclusive distributor for Celatom® freshwater diatomaceous earth - an extremely high quality diatomite. Celatom® diatomite has unique properties including high bulking values, low levels of oil absorption, uniformity and porosity, making it a leading filler, absorbent and carrier.

Celatom® diatomite filter aids are available in a full range of grades and permeabilities to cover all requirements. The lower permeability grades form filter cakes with small pores and produce a high degree of clarification. The higher permeability grades provide greater throughputs with corresponding clarity.

Perlite is produced from natural volcanic rock and has high surface area, high water absorption and unique whitening qualities. Being chemically inert and lightweight makes perlite an extremely effective filler and extender.

Perlite filter aids are available in a full range of grades and permeabilities. Perilte is functionally similar to diatomaceous earth, however perlite bulk densities are about half that of diatomite . Kilo for Kilo, perlite gives up to 20% greater filtering capacity resulting in comparable savings in filter aid usage, especially on rotary vacuum per-coat filters

Celatom perlite filter aids do not impart taste or odour to liquids being filtered.

Perlite is used to filter juices, wastewater, beverages and industrial chemicals.

Activated carbon is a unique absorbent with a high internal porosity and a large internal surface area.

It is produced by heat treatment, or "activation", of raw materials such as wood, coal, peat and coconuts. During the activation process, the carbon’s internal pore structure is developed and it is this unique structure which gives activated carbon its extraordinary absorptive capabilities.

Activated carbon can be used for a number of different applications, such as the decolourisation of sugar and sweeteners, drinking water treatment, production of pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals, catalytic processes, automotive vapour filters, colour/odour correction in wines and fruit juices or as an additive in liquorice.

Flexibulk Ltd supplies activated carbon produced by the Jacobi Carbons Group – manufacturers of one of the most comprehensive ranges of activated carbons available All materials are packed to the highest international standards, in polyethylene valve sacks, laminated FIBCs (big bags) and bulk silo tankers and can even provide special packaging on request.

Diacel / Natural products for technical applications
Diacel Cellulose is specifically designed for solid-liquid filtration. What makes it so different from other filter aids is that it is organic, derived from re-growing raw materials and may be applied either in pre-coat filtration or in continuous dosage to keep the loss of pressure low.

Diacel products are available in different particle sizes from 75 µm to 2500 µm.

Diacel offers the following benefits during filtration:

Diacel products are used in food, pharmaceutical and technical filtration.
